Humanity of Jesus


1. Jesus was not "Clark Kent in-the-flesh"

3. Jesus was sent to be like us. Heb. 2:14; 17; Phil. 2:7
4. Did Jesus have the ability to be above man, better, stronger, different? Yes - but he "emptied himself"
5. Phil. 2:5-8 In likeness of men - emptied himself
6. Heb. 2:14-17
        14- Became flesh and blood; died
        15- We are afraid of death no longer
                Death is not our master
        16- Help is given to all descendants of Abraham
                God is not helping angels
        17- He was made like his brethren
                Why did he have to be made like us?
                Merciful, understanding, (Heb. 4:15)
                Propitiation (I John 2:1-2)
        18- He was tempted
                He can help those who are tempted.
7. Was Jesus ever "Unable"?
        A. By himself = Nothing. Why? He was human.
        B. V. 18 accuses him of being equal with God
8. Phil. 2:6-7 Emptied himself of what?
        A. Jesus was "all able"
        B. Now he was "all unable"
        C. Jesus was not an "E. T." a visitor from another planet. He lived and died.
        D. Jesus volunteered to be unable.
        E. We are unable.
9. John 14:12 WATCH THIS! Can you do greater things than Jesus did? Yes! How? Jesus was total human. Same as us. Jesus went back to the Father.
                God in the flesh returns
                God in the spirit arrives, lives in, not hover over like a helicopter
        God covered the outside by Jesus example. God covered the inside by the H. S. (indwell, function)

11. List the powerful things of this world rockets, bombs
        We are more powerful than these things
        We have an Invisible force. We are no longer average, just getting by. We are co-God, fellow-workers. We have His strength. (II Cor. 6:1)
12. We have the Divine Nature II Pet. 1:4 We are partners with God.
13. Jews make too little of Jesus. We make too much.
14. Jews can't get past what they see. We can't get past what we can't see.
15. Jesus showed that a flesh person can walk with a Spirit God. Not side by side but intertwined.
16. He emptied himself
        A. Taking the form, arms, legs, hair, born a baby
        B. Humbled himself, no short cuts
        C. Became obedient, could have come to earth bossy, calling all the shots, rule the world
        D. Point of death, Why did he die?
17. Jesus learned to read, pray, study, obey He was not a robot. Clark Kent in the flesh, illusion, not an exception to the human rule.
18. His divine nature was emptied. He was confined to an earthen vessel. His only link to the eternal was the Holy Spirit.
19. Jesus partook of the lower nature so that we can partake of the higher nature. II Cor. 5:21
20. We are to be full of God
