Vain (Idle) Talk is NOT:

1. Telling jokes

2. Laughing about past events – funny things that happened

3. Talking about sports / weather / Anna Nichole Smith

4. Courteous, polite conversation in check out line

   1. We are commanded to be polite and courteous

   2. Is is common courtesy to speak when spoken to

5. Reading, watching fiction stories (movies, books)

6. Telling fairy tales to children

7. Talking about things where we are no expert

8. Opinions – What I think or feel about some issue

Vain (Idle) Talk IS:

1. Vulgar

2. Humor at another's expense, hurt or embarrassment

3. Harmful, Injurious

4. Wicked, polluted

5. Vain babbling – 1 Timothy 6:20; 2 Timothy 2:16

6. Lies – statements that a void of truth

7. Statements with no purpose – Why did you say that?
