Why Does God Allow Suffering?
Introduction -
- This question is as old as the first tear, and as recent as the latest newscast.
- It was asked by Job, and is asked by every person who lives.
- Why does God allow suffering, pain, disease, disaster?
- How can Christians rejoice in the midst of their trials? (James 1:2)
- Here are some Biblical answers.
- Suffering keeps this world from becoming too attractive.
- Hebrews 13:14
- 1 Peter 2:11
- Suffering can bring out our best.
- Romans 5:3-4
- Suffering gives an occasion to silence the enemies of God.
- 1 Peter 2:15 We must silence foolish men who ridicule God.
- Job's suffering silenced Satan.
- We must be patiently endure to silence the critics.
- Suffering makes us appreciative.
- We often take the comforts of life for granted.
- Good health, friends, freedom to worship, loving family.
- Philippians 1:3-8
- Suffering makes up more dependent upon God.
- We often thing of ourselves as self-sufficient.
- Acts 17:28 reminds us we do not even breathe without God's help.
- Suffering helps purify us.
- 1 Peter 1:6-7 Suffering can be like purifying gold - in the fire.
- James 1:2-5 Maturity is developed through trials.
- Suffering makes us sympathetic toward others.
- 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
- Walk a mile in their shoes.
- Romans 12:15 Weep with those who weep
- Suffering teaches us how to pray.
- We pray often. Right?
- In times of suffering - We pray - Earnestly, Perseveringly, Fervently
- We pray with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. Romans 8:26
Conclusion:
- Can you begin to see some real value to suffering?
- If you look only from MAN'S viewpoint, you will not understand.
- Remember - God's ways are above ours. Isaiah 55:8-9
- When we look at suffering from GOD'S point of view, from the viewpoint of His plans, then we can begin to appreciate why He would allow suffering.
