INTRODUCTION:

  1. Marriages are falling apart.
  2. Why are they not holding together?
  3. Where are the cracks?
  4. There are four (4) cracks in the mortar.

1.       Public Opinion vs. God’s Commandments

    1. “Everybody is doing it.” – Talk shows – Jerry Springer, Sally Jessie
      Hollywood, books, movies, TV, music
    2. Our text says, “Parents, teach them.”

2.       Accommodating Theology vs. Accommodating our life

    1. We change our beliefs to do what we want
    2. “I used to believe that – not now.”
    3. Instead of changing our life to fit the Bible.
    4. Rationalize, Explain away, Ignore
    5. Ezekiel 33:30-33 – come and listen – NOT HEED

3.       Delayed Consequences vs. Eternal Consequences

    1. Ecclesiastes 8:11 – sentence not executed speedily, heart is fully set to do evil
    2. Living Bible – “Because God does not punish sinners instantly, people feel it is safe to do wrong.”
    3. God is Just – Punishment is coming!
    4. Claim to be happier, enjoy life, freedom
In reality – there will be a Payday – Someday!

4.       Christian Approval vs. Divine Approval

    1. 1 Corinthians 5:1-7 – Some proud, most have not mourned, not sad
    2. Lady I studied with for 2 hours during the campaign
Member for years – adultery – remarried – had children by another
Brings a chapter from a book – seeking to justify her marriage

Conclusion:

  1. Realize the world around us has weakened the home, family and marriage.
  2. We must be alert for the cracks in the mortar.
