TEXT: Mark 16:1-11
PROPOSITION: There are four important events which happened at the
resurrection of Jesus.
QUESTION: What?
KEY WORD: Happenings
SCRIPTURE READING: Same
INTRODUCTION:
- The core, center, foundation of Christianity is the
resurrection.
- There are four events that happened in conjunction with
the resurrection.
The Stone Rolled (4)
- There was a violent earthquake.
- The stone was 8 ft. in diameter, 1 foot thick, weighed 4
tons
- Women wondered – who will roll the stone for us?
- God rolled the stone.
- The stone was not moved to let Jesus out.
- It was moved to let the women, apostles and us see in.
- All of us have stones in our lives – we need them rolled
away.
- Fear, distress, worry, problems, disease, family,
personal problems
- NOTE: God still moves stones.
The Guards Feared (Matthew 28:4)
- They shook with fear. They became as dead men.
- They knew the Roman law – They would die for their
“crime” of letting this dead prisoner escape.
- Some people should fear God but have no concern about
eternity, hell, judgment, etc.
- Hebrews 10:31 – It is a fearful thing to fall
into the hands of the living God.
- Matthew 10:28 – Do not fear one who can only kill
the body,
The Woman Ran (8)
- Retired couple decided to walk 2 miles a day – walk 1
mile out, turn around and walk back – At turn around, husband asked wife is
she could make it back – She said yes – He said, Good, go get the car and come
pick me up.
- We all need some exercise – physical and spiritual
- The church needs more runners
- We have no right to keep this news to ourselves. It must
be shared.
The Savior Appeared (9)
- Human reasoning says nobody comes back from the dead.
- We can stimulate nerves and muscles in a dead body – but
not put life back
- Jesus appeared.
- Paul’s argument in 1 Corinthians 15 – appeared.
- Peter’s argument – I was an eye witness
- Thomas’ proof – I saw, touched, spoke with Jesus
- If God can raise the dead – think what He can do in your
life.
Conclusion:
- Leonardo da Vinci – painted the Last Supper of Jesus
with his disciples
- A friend observed the painting with all the detail –
“cup is so real”
- Brush blurred the cup – Nothing should divert attention
from Jesus.
