TEXT: Job 19:25-27
PROPOSITION: We must not lose the important, eternal things of life.
QUESTION: Which?
KEY WORD: Beliefs
SCRIPTURE READING: Same

INTRODUCTION:

  1. We studied how Job handled his pain and suffering

  2. We have looked at what Job lost – pain, and suffering

  3. Now we must understand what Job KEPT

Four Things Job Did NOT Lose:

Personal integrity / personal righteousness

  1. Not holier-than-thou attitude

  2. He examined his life – noting this bad – no major sins

  3. No murder, adultery, or violation of the commands of God

  4. Listen to Job -

    1. Not denied God 6:10 – Then I would still have comfort; Though in anguish I would exult, He will not spare; For I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.

    2. 13:15 – maintain my ways before him

    3. Innocent 13:18 – See now, I have prepared my case, I know that I shall be vindicated.

    4. Obeyed 23:12 – I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.

    5. Integrity 27:5-6 – 5 Far be it from me That I should say you are right; Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me. 6 My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go; My heart shall not reproach me as long as I live.

Belief in God's Ultimate and Final Righteousness

  1. 23:10 – But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.

  2. 19:25-27 25 For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth; 26 And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God, 27 Whom I shall see for myself, And my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!

    1. Redeemer lives

    2. I will live again

    3. After death – I will see God

    4. God will not be a stranger

  3. He did not understand the present situation

    1. WHY is this happening?

    2. This is not fair.

  4. But he never lost the ultimate faith in God being good

Belief in the Existence of God

  1. 19:25 – I know that my Redeemer lives

  2. In time of pain, trouble, distress – many lose faith in God

  3. “If there is a God, why did He do this to me?”

  4. If God is all-powerful – why the tsunami? Fire? Earthquake? Cancer?

  5. Psalm 14:1 – fool says there is no god

  6. Romans 1:20 – fools deny God

Fight with Satan

  1. Our war is not with God – it is Satan

    1. Don't get confused – Satan is the enemy – not God

    2. Like 2 women fighting over a cheating husband – should be mad at the cheater!

  2. Job lost some battles – not the war.

  3. To get to heaven we must “overcome”

    1. Revelation 21:7; 12:11; 2:10

    2. All 7 letters – to him that overcomes

Conclusion

  1. We must never lose our faith in God

  2. We must not lose, give up, abandon the fight against Satan
