TITLE: You do err
TEXT: Mark 12:18-27
PROPOSITION: We often make the same mistakes the Sadducees made.
QUESTION: What?
KEY WORD: Mistakes
READING: Same
INTRODUCTION:
The Pharisees and Herodians failed to trick Jesus.
Now the Sadducees try their hand at it.
Question involved the law of Levirate Marriage
Assumed
The question assumes that marriage continues in heaven.
Many religious questions - make an assumption
- I was asked about instrumental music in worship
- Then, how do you justify tithing? (Assumed we tithed 10%)
Many assume the pictures in Bible storybooks are accurate.
- John the Baptizer with a bowl of water over Jesus head
- Jesus with long hair (think he was a Nazarite)
- 3 wise men at the manger the night of Jesus birth
Bible is Bible (not rightly divide OT and NT)
- 2 Timothy 2:15 - rightly dividing the Word of Truth
- David played the harp; worship on Saturday
- Keep the 10 Commandments
Not Know Scriptures
Have you not read Exodus 3:6 - God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
God is not the god of the dead, but of the living.
Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are alive and serving God.
Not Understand the Power (ability) of God
In eternity we will be like the angels
We will not marry, nor are we given in marriage.
Heaven is not a place for weddings, family units, raising children
In heaven, we will be the family of God.
Today many forget about the ability of God.
- Cremation
- Person lost at sea, body never recovered
- Help us out of our problems
Conclusion:
You do greatly err.(27)
Do not repeat these mistakes in seeking the truth.
