INTRODUCTION:
We struggle to understand heaven because our finite minds have difficulty with the infinite.
This sermon will focus on some things about heaven we can grasp.
Heaven is REAL!
John 14:2 – I to go prepare a PLACE
Heaven is always described as a place – a location
Not on a map or visible through a telescope – but still a place
Where Christ is
Some have been allowed a glimpse of heaven
Paul – 2 Corinthians 12:4 – caught up to 3rd heaven
John – in the book of Revelation
Stephen – as he was dying
Jesus is there – at the right hand of God
Colossians 3:1 – If you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
Heaven is where our Heavenly Father is
Deuteronomy 26:15 – Look down from your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless Your people Israel and the land which You have given us
Ecclesiastes 5:2 – Do not be rash with your mouth, and let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you are on earth.
All the Faithful will be in heaven
Matthew 8:11 – And I say to you tht many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
1 Thessalonians 4:17 – Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
Infants and unaccountable will be in heaven
Matthew 19:14 – But Jesus said, Let the little children come to me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
2 Samuel 12:15 – David said, I shall go to him; but he shall not return to me.
Conclusion:
Story of man in a room, dog outside whining and scratching to come in. Dog had never been in this room before – BUT he knew his Master was inside.
Heaven is where our MASTER is.
James 5:7 – Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord.
As the dog waits patiently at the door – we wait for the coming of Jesus to call us home.
