TITLE: Footsteps of Jesus

TEXT: 1 Peter 2:21-25

PROPOSITION: Jesus is our example to follow his steps.

  1. INTRODUCTION: Song, “Sweetly Lord, have we heard thee calling,
    Come follow me!”

  2. Jesus is our example. We should follow where he leads.

  3. Where do the footsteps of Jesus lead us?


Waters of Baptism – Mark 1:9-11

  1. John’s baptism = burial in water

  2. Based on repentance

  3. For the remission of sins.

  4. We should follow – Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16

Wilderness of Temptation – Matthew 4:1-11

  1. Jesus resisted Satan – We can too.

  2. Jesus quoted Scripture to stop temptation.

  3. Can you quote a scripture about your sins?

  4. Psalm 119:11 - I have hidden Your Word in my heart, so that I might not sin against You.

House of Worship – Luke 4:16 “as was his custom”

  1. Jesus read, prayed, attended worship in synagogue and temple.

  2. We should do the same. Hebrews 10:25

  3. There are bad habits – and GOOD ones – This is a good one.

Fields of Service – Acts 10:38 “he went about doing good”

  1. To sinners, to sick, to lost, to hurting, to our brethren, to world

  2. We must follow his steps

Mountain of Prayer – Luke 6:12 “continued all night in prayer”

  1. Then most tired – too tired to pray – This is the time to pray!

  2. Don’t have time to pray? Don’t have time NOT to pray.

Garden of Despair – Matthew 26:38-40

  1. Betrayed, Denied, Forsaken – by his friends

  2. Hated, Plotted against – by his enemies

  3. All alone – “God, Why hast thou forsaken me?”

Valley of Death – Psalm 23:41

  1. We all face this valley of death.

  2. Go through with Jesus at your side.

Throne of God – Heaven –

  1. Psalm 24:7 Lift up your heads, King of Glory

  2. Will you follow in the steps of Jesus?

  3. Will you go where he leads?

  4. Have you followed him?
