TITLE: Headed for Heaven

TEXT: 2 Corinthians 5:1-10

PROPOSITION: We ought to be anxious for heaven.

QUESTION: Why?

KEY WORD: Reasons

READING: Same

1. Bible teacher - Who wants to go to heaven?

One boy did not raise his hand. Why?

“I thought you were getting up a load right now!”

2. Golfer - any golf in heaven? “You tee off at 9 in the morning”

WE AREN’T ANXIOUS FOR HEAVEN BECAUSE:

1. Trying to make heaven on earth.

Song- Earth is not my home, just a passing through

We are too in love with the campground.

Remember - This earth won’t last

2 Peter 3:7-12 melt, burn up, dissolved

Hebrews 12:16 Esau sold birthright for “morsel of meat”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 outer perish; inner renewed

2 Corinthians 5:1-6 tabernacle = tent - temporary look for eternal

Hebrews 11:10 Abraham looked for city, eternal in heavens

This earth can’t satisfy us.

Solomon - all is vanity

Woman on Titanic - 3 apples, 2 oranges

2. Our image of heaven is distorted.

One long church service – preaching and singing

Sermon of mine – “Heaven Would Be Hell”

WE SHOULD BE ANXIOUS FOR HEAVEN BECAUSE:

1. So we can enjoy earth.

Philippians 1:23 Depart and with Christ is “far better”

Be content with what we have

No hearse pulls a U-Haul of possessions

Man on train w/suitcase - stolen - “Now I can sleep”

2. Keep ourselves ready.

1 John 3:2-3 hope = keep pure

Romans 8 let nothing steer you away from God

3. Motivation for Soul-winning.

1 Peter 3:15 Be ready for any that asks reason of hope

Many - not asking - they don’t see any hope in us.
