5. Verbal Inspiration

  1. Theories examined

    1. Natural - like an author, "gets an idea"

    2. Mechanical – dictation

    3. Thought - God gives the ideas

    4. Plenary (Verbal) - This is correct.

  2. Plenary or Verbal Inspiration

    1. 1 Corinthians 2:9-13 9But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 13These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

    2. Galatians 3:16 (singular vs. plural) He said seed not seeds

    3. Matthew 5:18 (jot or tittle)

    4. God used individual minds and styles of the writers. God told them what to write by selecting the words from their vocabulary to express the thought in the mind of God.
