TITLE: Everybody Says It – Nobody Believes It

TEXT: Matthew 7:21-23 - 21“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

PROPOSITION: Repeated often enough, it becomes truth.

INTRODUCTION:

  1. Some things we hear so often, we start to accept them as truth.

  2. Some repeat these statements without thinking them through.

  3. Here are some often made statements – but, when you think about it – NOBODY believes them.

One church is as good as another.

  1. Why don’t you become a Mormon? Jehovah’s Witness, or Buddhist?

  2. Why don’t you quit where you are come with me?

  3. We believe our church is better – or we would seek someplace else.

You go your way. I’ll go mine. We will all go to heaven.

  1. Why don’t you believe in maps?

  2. Do you believe the atheist is going to heaven?

  3. Do you believe the Muslim and Hindu are going to heaven?

What I do at home is nobody’s business.

  1. You mean it is OK for incest, pedophilia and kiddy porn?

  2. Is is OK to physically abuse your wife or kids in your home?

  3. Stories in the news – parents put children in closet, starve them, beat them

You can’t legislate morals.

  1. You can’t make laws about murder, rape, or incest?

  2. You can’t make laws about stealing, perjury, or drugs?

  3. Morals is ALL YOU CAN legislate!

  4. Every law @ every level = moral values

  5. REAL ISSUE: Whose morality will be legislated?

A loving God would never send anyone to hell.

  1. Would a loving God reward wicked and evil men?

  2. Would He be a loving God if He allowed Hitler and Stalin in with Paul and Peter?
