QUESTION: What?

KEY WORD: Demands

Introduction:

1. Paul explains that we are saved by faith.

2. We often misunderstand how this works.

3. Let’s discuss how faith saves and what it demands of us.

1. Looking UNTO Jesus, not just AT Him.

    A. Hebrews 12:2 “Looking UNTO Jesus”

    B. NOT LOOK AT JESUS:

        1. The man - miracles, teachings, wisdom

        2. Compassion, Zeal, Claims

    C. UNTO HIM:

        1. Faith = lean, rely, depend, trust

        2. Allstate - “You’re in good hands”

        3. Tightrope walker over the falls

        4. Peter walked on water - Matthew 14:22-33

2. Looking AWAY from everything else.

    A. Church directory

    B. Congregational membership

    C. Baptism (1 John 5:4-6)

    D. Special feelings

    E. Repentant of sins

    F. Health and Wealth

    G. Good Works - Matt. 7:21-23

3. Relying on a FACT, not experiencing a FEELING.

    A. Auto accident - Woman screams, Girl faints, Boy gets excited, Man runs to help

    B. Invitation response - Weeps, tears,- Huge smile

Conclusion:

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness.

I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus name.

Salvation by faith demands that we:

1. Look Unto Jesus.

2. Look away from everywhere else

3. Rely upon the facts of the Gospel.
