TITLE: Jesus’ Unfinished Work

TEXT: 1 Corinthians 15:24-26 - 24Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.

PROPOSITION: Jesus is still active and working for his people.

  1. Picture of mischievous boy, “God isn’t finished with me yet.”

  2. We often think of the work of Jesus from birth to cross.

  3. On cross - “It is finished” = work on earth was completed

  4. There is much that Jesus is NOW doing for his people.

Adding to his church.

  1. 1. Acts 2:47 - praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

  2. He purchased church with his blood

  3. Acts 20:28 - Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

  4. Ephesians 5:25 - Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,

  5. He wants his church to grow.

Edification of the members.

  1. Matthew 28:20 - teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

  2. Ephesians 4:7-13 He gave gifts - for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,

  3. 1 Corinthians 14:26b – Let all things be done for edification

Work of Intercession.

  1. Hebrews 12:25 - See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven,

  2. He speaks from heaven - through apostles, NT

  3. 1 Timothy 2:5 One mediator between God and man, Jesus

  4. Hebrews 7:25 He lives to make intercession for them.

  5. Romans 8:34 - Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

Head Over the Church.

  1. Colossians 1:18 - And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

  2. Ephesians 1:22-23 - 22And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

  3. 1 Corinthians 15:24 - Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.

King Over the Kingdom.

  1. 1 Timothy 6:15 - which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,

  2. Only potentate, King of Kings, Lord of Lords

  3. He is now ruling. Rule will end - at end of time.

Providential Care.

  1. Matthew 28:20b - and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

  2. Hebrews 13:5 - I will never leave you nor forsake you

  3. Matthew 18:20 - For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

Judge the World.

  1. John 12:48 - He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

  2. 2 Timothy 4:8 - Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

  3. 2 Timothy 4:1 - I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom:
