TITLE: Cross of Many Colors

TEXT: John 19:14-18

PROPOSITION: A sinless Jesus died for sinful men, shedding his blood as a demonstration of his love.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Ad on TV - "The Crucifixion" in color.

2. There are four colors at the cross.

 

1. BLACK - Sin nailed Him there.

  1. Isaiah 53:5-6, 8, 10, 12

  2. Matthew 26:28 for the remission of sins

  3. Romans 4:25 delivered for our offenses

  4. Romans 5:8 while we were yet sinners

  5. Romans 8:3 Jesus came in likeness of sinful flesh

  6. 2 Corinthians 5:21 knew no sin, became sin for us

  7. Hebrews 9:28 offered to bear sins of many

  8. 1 Peter 2:24 bore our sins in his body on the tree


2. WHITE - He was sinless.

  1. 1 John 1:8-10 We can't claim sinlessness

  2. 2 Corinthians 5:21 he, who knew no sin, became sin

  3. Hebrews 9:14 without spot offered himself to God

  4. 1 Peter 3:18 the just for the unjust

  5. 1 Peter 2:22 did no sin; no guile in mouth

  6. Hebrews 4:15 high priest, yet without sin

3. RED - Blood was shed for us.

4. GOLD - Love made it a reality.

  1. John 3:16 God SO loved the world

  2. Romans 5:8 God commends his love toward us

  3. Girl in orphanage "To 1 who finds this: I love you."

  4. Boy buys a crippled puppy.

  5. We have been crippled by sin!
