Can elders decide to go against a command from God?
Here is my view of God’s commands / and the exception
1. God commands the church to assemble – Hebrews 10:24-25
2. Giving is commanded in the assembly – 1 Corinthians 16:1-2
3. Communion is to be in the assembly – 1 Corinthians 11:
a. Come together – 17
b. Come together as a church – 18
c. Come together in one place – 20
d. When you come together – 33
e. Wait for one another – 33
f. Come together – 34
The Bible gives an
exception to the clear commands of God -
Preservation of life is the higher priority.
1. Mark 2:24-28
a. David ate the showbread
b. It was not lawful to enter the tabernacle
c. Or eat the showbread
2. Priests
a. Worked on Sabbath
b. They had a legal exception – Mark 2:26
3. Rescue an animal in a pit on Sabbath
a. Luke 14:5
b. Work to rescue the animal
4. Rahab
a. Lied but is in the list of faithful in Hebrews 11:33
b. To save lives of the spies
5. Self-defense
a. Killing an intruder is not murder
b. Because you are protecting the life of your family
6. Principle – preserve life is more important
