Closed Eyes / Open Eyes

(Matthew 13:13-15) 

(Acts 28:25-27) 

1.    Physical blindness is a medical condition – not chosen

2.    These verses show a DELIBERATE closing of the eyes

3.    The purpose of closing their eyes:

4.    Not want to understand

5.    Not want to hear the truth

6.    Not want to turn from their sin

7.    Not want to be healed (saved)

Open Eyes

(Acts 26:15-18) 

1.    Jesus Promised Paul

2.    Jesus will reveal (let you see)

3.    Deliver you from enemies (Jews and Gentiles)

4.    I send you to them

5.    For the purpose:

a.    Open their eyes

b.    Turn them from darkness to light

c.    Turn from power of Satan to God

d.    Receive forgiveness of sins

e.    Obtain an inheritance (heaven)

(Luke 24:31-32) 

Men on road to Emmaus

1.    Discouraged, sad, ready to give up

2.    Thought he was the Messiah we looked for

3.    Jesus showed them how he fulfilled the prophecies of OT

4.    Their eyes were opened.

a.    They knew Him

b.    He vanished

c.    Their hearts burned as He talked with them

d.    He OPENED THE SCRIPTURES to us
