Abel’s Faithful Offering
Hebrews 11:4 “By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.”
I. God was pleased with Abel’s offering.

B. Faith made the difference.
C. It was a working faith.

II. God witnessed Abel’s sacrifice and its rightness.
A. “Witness” & “testifying” from same Greek word
meaning give a good report
B. “Righteous” means he had followed divine law
C. Evidently God had given direction (Rom. 10:17)
1. May have been animal vs. vegetable
2. Or God wanted first & best (firstlings & fat)
3. Know God wanted obedience. 1 Sam. 15:22
D. Having seen, God will reward.

III. Abel is dead, but still speaks.
A. Blood calling for vengeance. Hebrews 12:24;
Genesis 4:10
B. Through his example of obedient faith
C. Reminding us God’s favor is available to the
obedient. Matthew 7:21
