1. "Called" is present tense indicating no sooner
called than went.
2. Unknown destination on earth.
B. Hebrews 11:9 Like visitor passing through.
1. Only land cave of Machpelah for burying.

2. Possessed God's promise (land).
3. 1 Peter 1:17 "And if you call on the Father, who
without partiality judges according to each one’s
work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of
your sojourning here in fear."
4. 1 Peter 2:11 "Beloved, I beg you as sojourners
and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war
against the soul."

1. Abraham's destination eternal city!

II. Was rewarded with the child of promise.
A. Abraham and Sarah needed faith.
1. Gen. 15:1-4 Abram: servant heir?
2. Genesis 16 Tried to help God.
3. Gen. 17:15-19; 18:12-15 Abraham & Sarah
laughed at thoughts of barren, past child bearing
past child bearing having a child!
B. Hebrews 11:11 Faith overcame doubts.
C. Hebrews 11:12 Dead in reproductive sense rewarded
with nation!
D. Hebrews 11:13 Died as lived--in faith.
Only saw promise in the distance.
E. Hebrews 11:14-16 Because openly seek
God's country--God not ashamed.
F. Revelation 21:3 "And I heard a loud voice from
heaven saying, 'Behold, the tabernacle of God is with
men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be with them and
be their God.'"
III. Stood up to a great test.
A. Hebrews 11:17-18 "Offered up" 1st perfect tense
–completed in mind.
2nd Imperfect--stopped in progress.
B. Genesis 17:15-19 Isaac son of promise.
C. Hebrews 11:19 Said they would be back!
D. Genesis 22:5 "And Abraham said to his young men, 'Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.'"
