TITLE:  A Christian is Holy
TEXT:  1 Peter 1:13-18
PROPOSITION:  Christians must be separate from the world.

INTRODUCTION:

  1. HOLY = Greek – hagios – from root word meaning “different”
  2. Temple = holy – separate from other buildings
  3. Sabbath = holy – separate from other days of the week
  4. Christian = holy – separate from the world
  5. We are called to be a holy people

 

The Christian has a Perfect Pattern for Holiness (1 Peter 1:16)

  1. Religions are imitations
    1. Heathenism creates “god” after its corrupt mind
    2. Heathenism imitates God
  2. Let’s go back to the REAL GOD

 

The Christian is to be Holy in All Manner of Living (KJV – conversation) (1 Peter 1:15)

  1. World – lust, disobedience, evil, sin
    1. We must be transformed, not conformed (Romans 12:1-2)
    2. Keep yourself unspotted from the world (James 1:27)
    3. Refrain from friendship with the world (James 4:4)
  2. Marriage – Our marriages must be different
    1. Hold marriage sacred
    2. Be faithful to your vows
  3. Business – We must be different from the world
    1. Honest – Romans 12:17
    2. Industrious – 2 Thessalonians 3:10
  4. Recreation – Enjoy life on a higher plane
    1. Put the kingdom of God first – Matthew 6:33
    2. Let others see your light – Matthew 5:14-16

 

The Christian is Motivated to be Holy (1 Peter 1:13)

  1. Anticipate the Lord’s return
    1. Christ is coming – 2 Peter 3:10-12
    2. We are told to “watch” – Matthew 24:42-44
  2. Know that we will stand be for God in Judgment
    1. Give an account – 2 Corinthians 5:10
    2. All will be judged – Acts 17:30-31
  3. Gratitude for the death of Christ
    1. Jesus died so we could be different – Titus 2:11-14
    2. LS reminds us that we are different – 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

 Conclusion:

  1. “Were the whole realm of nature mine, that were a present far too small,
    Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.”
  2. The world wants us to conform
  3. God wants us to transform
  4. Which will you decide?
