INTRODUCTION:

  1. “Don’t like the message – kill the messenger.”
  2. We often don’t like the truth.
  3. Tell us good, smooth, wonderful things.
  4. Don’t tell us about sin, hell, judgment, etc.

 Background of text

  1. Ahab did not like the message of Micaiah’s message.
  2. He told of the death of Ahab – dogs would lick his blood in Naboth’s vineyard
  3. Micahiah said – If you return in peace – then God has not spoken by me.

 UNPLEASANT TRUTH IS:

Hated

  1. John 15:18 – World hated you
  2. John 3:19 – Their deeds were evil
  3. Lover if lies –
    1. Doesn’t matter what you believe
    2. All will be saved
    3. One church as good as another
    4. Once saved, always saved
    5. God won’t condemn anyone just because ______.

 Respected

  1. John 8:46 – What man convicts me of sin?
  2. We must accept it – even if we don’t like to hear it.

 Presented

  1. Often harm to the presenter – “kill the messenger”
  2. Think of the persecuted – Jeremiah, Micaiah, Joseph, Jesus, Stephen

 Rejected

  1. Ahab rejected the truth
  2. Agrippa rejected the truth
  3. Jews killed Stephen – rejected the truth
  4. Herod rejected the truth from John the Baptizer

 Fulfilled

  1. Micaih said – See if comes to pass. If you return alive – I am a false prophet.
  2. Jesus told of his betrayal, trial, denial, death, and resurrection

Truth, crushed to earth, shall raise again –

The eternal years of God are hers;

But error, wounded, writhes in pain,

And dies among his worshipers.
