TITLE: Anemic Christians
TEXT: 1 Corinthians 11:27-30
PROPOSITION: We must learn to minister to the anemic Christian.

  1. INTRODUCTION: Anemia = "no blood" – Red blood cells are reduced in number.
  2. Resulting in weakness, shortness of breath, palpitation of the heart.
  3. Many Christians are anemic (synonym for WEAK) and need our help.

The Possibility of Spiritual Anemia

  1. Rome had weak members – Romans 15:1; 14:1
  2. Corinth had some weak members – text.
  3. Thessalonica had weak members – 1 Thessalonians 5:14
  4. Other terms used – Lukewarm (Revelation 3:16)
  5. No conviction, divided allegiance (Matthew 6:24 – 2 masters)

The Symptoms of Spiritual Anemia

  1. Weak in Resistance.
    To temptation – To sin – Weak excuses offered instead of resistance.
    To error – Lack of Bible knowledge – Lack of conviction to truth
    To offenses – Thin blood = thin skin – Handle with kid gloves
  2. Weak in Appetite.
    Matthew 5:6 – Not hungry for the word, Not thirsty
    Hebrews 5:12 – Should be eating meat – still on the milk
    Good appetite for sports, TV, movies, magazines, etc.
    No appetite for strong meat of the Word – Doctrine – Distinctive Preaching
    No appetite for more than one worship hour per week.
  3. Weak in Exercise.
    Exercise – home, job, school, clubs, organizations
    No strength to work (exercise) for the church.
    Hebrews 5:14 – Have senses exercised to know good and evil.
  4. Weak in Estimate of Ability.
    "I can’t" is the common cry of the anemic.
    "I’ll try" is the response of the strong.
    Been a Christian X years – can’t teach others, visit sick, assist in worship
    Some (for other health reasons) are not able to – Heart, In wheelchair, etc.
    Man – hobby of raising bees and honey – Spoke to Beekeepers –
    Would not teach class at church.

Attitude Toward the Anemic

  1. Do not despise or hate them. – Not withdraw from them.
  2. Do not offend them – Drive them away
  3. Encourage – Motivate – Feed – Strengthen them
  4. Strong are to BEAR the infirmities of the weak. Help to get stronger.
  5. DANGER – Long-term anemia = Willful, Contagious, Eternal.
