INTRODUCTION:

  1. Old adage, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." Is this true?
  2. Depends on meaning of success.
  3. A donkey could see what a prophet of God could not.

I. First Try 22:4-12

  1. See what God will say
  2. God said, "Thou shalt not go with them ; thou shalt not curse the people, for they are blessed."

II. Second Try 22:16-19

  1. Offered promotion, great honor
  2. See what "MORE" God will say 19
  3. Sometimes, we want a "second opinion"

III. Donkey Ride 22:24-31

  1. Donkey could see what Baalam could not see
  2. Donkey saved his life - Baalam beat him 3 times

IV. Third Try 23:7-11

  1. God is everywhere
  2. Verse 10 - Die death of righteous, end be like his.

V. Fourth Try 23:13-24

  1. Try another place
  2. I will meet the Lord yonder 15
  3. God is not a man; that he should lie. 19
  4. God blessed. I cannot reverse it. 20

VI. Fifth Try 23:27- 24:1

  1. Try another place
  2. Same results
  3. Stopped chasing after personal reward 24:1

VII. Success At Last 24:14

  1. Num. 25:1 fornication and idolatry
  2. Num. 31:16 through the counsel of Balaam
  3. Rev. 2:14 Those who hold the doctrine of Balaam
  4. Num. 25:9 24,000 died as a result

Conclusion:

  1. What could not be done by cursing God
  2. WAS DONE by counsel, fornication
