TITLE: Body of Christ

TEXT: Ephesians 1:22-23

PROPOSITION: There are comparisons of a physical body to the body of Christ.

QUESTION: Which?

1.        Church described as - Kingdom, army, house, vineyard

2.        Here it is pictured as a body.

3.        This is not an anatomy lesson. But there are some comparisons between our body and the body of Christ.

4.        My focus is on the local congregation of the church.

 

1. External (skin, hair, height, weight, etc.) - Visible

1.        Church must put on good appearance to the world

2.        Not compromise the truth - present truth - kindly

3.        Church must be seen by the world – we cannot go into hiding

 

2. Nervous (brain, instructs all parts) - Guides, instructs

1.        Christ is the head (brain, center of all instructions)

2.        We are members of the body - obey the commands

3.        We do not think for ourselves. Not rebel to commands

 

3. Digestive (nutrition) - Nourishment

1.        Word of God must be eaten, chewed, digested, absorbed

2.        Jesus is our source of strength - John 15

 

4. Skeletal (frame, structure) - Strength, support

1.        Church is not a "jelly fish"

2.        Elders, deacons, teachers, ministers, etc.

3.        Every dedicated member provides support and strength to the other parts of the body

 

5. All parts must work together.

1.        We are more than any one of the above items

2.        Mouth delivers air to lungs to take oxygen to blood to heart to brain to move fingers
