TITLE: If a Man Die, Shall he Live Again?
TEXT: Job 14:13-16
PROPOSITION: God reveals what will happen after death.
QUESTION: What?

INTRODUCTION:

  1. Chart sermon – in two parts (tonight part 2)
  2. This chart is a basic diagram showing all the situations in which people die.
  3. If I die in this situation – What will happen to me after death?

 

Birth

  1. Matthew 18:3 – convert and become as little child
  2. Bible does not teach that we inherit sin. (Ezekiel 18:4, 20)
  3. 2 Samuel 12:13-15 – David determined to be with his infant son
  4. Die in this condition = SAFE

 

Sin

  1. James 1:13-16 – temped = sin, sin = death
  2. Romans 3:23 – all have sinned
  3. Romans 6:23 – wages of sin is death
  4. Die in this situation = LOST

 

Saved

  1. Believe, repent, confess, baptized = forgiven, saved
  2. Added to church, sins washed away, adopted into God’s family
  3. All the past is forgiven, gone, erased
  4. Die in this situation = SAVED

 

Fall from Grace

  1. Galatians 5:4 – you have fallen from grace
  2. Hebrews 3:12 – depart from the living God
  3. Acts 8:20-23 – Simon sinned and was in danger of being lost
  4. Die in this situation = LOST

 

Restored

  1. Acts 8:24 – Pray for me, forgive me
  2. Galatians 6:1 – restore such a one
  3. James 5:19-20 – save a soul from death
  4. Revelation 2:10 – remain faithful until death = crown of life
  5. Die in this situation = SAVED

 

Conclusion:

  1. I am not your judge – Jesus is.
  2. I am simply asking – WHERE ARE YOU RIGHT NOW?
  3. Where will you be in eternity is determined by your situation now.

 


THIS IS PART 2 – PREACHED AT THE EVENING SERVICE

 

 

Death

  1. Death = separation
  2. Spiritual death = separation from God
  3. Physical death = separation of soul and body
  4. When we die (no matter the situation we are in)
  5.  
    1. The body returns to the earth – buried, lost at sea, cremated
    2. Ecclesiastes 12:7
    3. Job 10:9 – made from clay, bring to dust again
  6. Romans 5:12 – all die because all have sinned

 

Hades

  1. Hades (Greek); Sheol (Hebrew)
  2. Intermediate state of the soul
  3. There are two parts:
  1.  
    1. Paradise – Luke 23:43; Luke 16
    2. Torments – Luke 16
  1. Jesus went to hades (hell in JKV) – Psalm 16:9; Acts 2:26-27
  2. His body was buried – John 19:41-42
  3. He went to Paradise in hades – Luke 23:43
  4. He did NOT go to Heaven itself – John 20:17 – not yet ascended

 

Resurrection

  1. John 5:28-29 – all will be raised
  2. 1 Corinthians 15:51 – all will be changed
  3. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
  4. 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9

 

Judgment

  1. Not determine guilt or innocence – this happened at death
  2. Judgment = passing of sentence
  3. Explain to the “self-righteous” why they are lost – Matthew 25

 

Heaven

  1. Home of the faithful and righteous
  2. Revelation 20:4

 

Hell - Gehenna

  1. Revelation 21:8
  2. Revelation 20:10-15

 

Conclusion:

  1. Where will you spend your eternity?
  2. The soul is immortal – eternal – and will continue through eternity.
  3. Your choice today determines your destiny.
