TITLE: How to Get the Glory Back

TEXT: 1 Samuel 7:1-12

PROPOSITION: Like Israel, sometimes we get the ark back but not the glory of God.

QUESTION: How?

SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Samuel 7:1-3

INTRODUCTION:

  1. The Ark of the Covenant was taken (stolen).
  2. It had been gone for 20 years.
  3. Now, the Ark of the Covenant was back but not the glory of God.
  4. We wander away from God We return but it is not the same.
  5. There are some requirements for getting the glory back.

Real Returning (Desire)

  1. "If you do return unto the Lord with all your hearts"
  2. More than words
  3. Conditional
  4. Many claim to want revival not from the heart.

Real Repentance

  1. "Then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you"
  2. Baal all the foreign gods occupation, agriculture, harvest, prosperity
  3. Ashtaroth Female Fertility, sensual pleasure
  4. Jobs, money, material gain sex and pleasure Sound familiar?

Real Commitment

  1. "Prepare your heats unto the Lord" (NIV "commit yourselves to the Lord")
  2. We live in a non-committal society
    1. No commitment to marriage, family, home
    2. No commitment to local church
    3. No commitment to job, loyalty, extra effort
    4. No commitment to friends, relationships
  3. "If it doesn't work out, move on to greener pastures."
  4. If you cannot commit to human relationships you will not commit to God.

Real Service (Work)

  1. "And serve Him only"
  2. Get involved find a place to work. Listen to announcement, bulletin.
  3. There is much to do little time to get it done.
  4. Not just include God in our activity serve Him ONLY!

Real Deliverance

  1. "And He will deliver you"
  2. You must look honestly inside yourself
  3. Let go Allow God to change you and set you free.

Results

  1. They put away the idols vs. 4
  2. They confessed their sin vs. 6
  3. The Lord delivered them vs. 10
  4. Ebenezer Lord Helped us vs. 12

 

Conclusion:

With desire, repentance, commitment and service you can be delivered.

Then the Glory of the Lord returns
