TITLE: Ignorance is NOT Bliss
TEXT: 1 Timothy 1:12-15
PROPOSITION: Ignorance is not a valid excuse for our behavior.

INTRODUCTION:

  1. Many think, "Ignorance is bliss."
  2. Reason – Not knowing means not having any demand to act.
  3. Paul THOUGHT he was doing right to oppose the church. Still a sin!
  4. Tonight, notice some topics (mysteries) about which we must not be ignorant.

God

  1. Acts 17:23 – Unknown God, ignorantly worship
  2. Romans 1:20 – They are without excuse
  3. No Bible? Look at the world around you. Psalm 19:1

Satan

  1. 2 Corinthians 2:11 – Satan’s devices, schemes, wiles
  2. 1 Peter 5:8-9 – Be sober, Devil walks around, roaring lion

End of the World

  1. 2 Peter 3:5-10 – Melt with heat, works burned up
  2. 2 Peter 2:12 – Many ridicule what they do not understand
    They will perish in their own corruption

Determined to be Ignorant

  1. 1 Corinthians 14:38 – Some want to be ignorant, all your teaching will not help
  2. Matthew 10:14 – Shake dust off your feet and move on
  3. Matthew 7:6 – Cast pearls before swine, holy things to dogs

Following God’s Will

  1. Romans 10:3 – Ignorant of God, do their own righteousness
  2. Matthew 7:21 – Not those who claim, those who DO the will of God

God’s Forgiveness

  1. Romans 2:4 – Not know the goodness, forbearance, wait for repentance
  2. 2 Peter 3:9 – Longsuffering with us, not wanting us to perish, repent
