TITLE:  Eat or Be Eaten (The Last Supper)
TEXT:  Revelation 19:17-21
PROPOSITION:  Many who think they are guests, will be the main course.
QUESTION:  Who?

 INTRODUCTION:

  1. Eat or be eaten. Guest for dinner = eat at same table, OR you ARE dinner
  2. Jesus told several parables about dinner invitations
    1. Man without his wedding garment
    2. 10 Virgins
    3. Excuses made
    4. Do not sit at head table
  3. Jesus accepted many dinner invitations
    1. Simon the leper
    2. Martha and Mary
    3. Zaccheus
    4. Wedding feast – first miracle

 All are invited (given the opportunity to come)

  1. Matthew 11:28-30 – All who labor and are heavy laden
  2. Revelation 22:17 – Who hears, Come; Who thirsts, Come
  3. Revelation 3:20 – Stand at door and knock,
  4. John 3:16 – Whoever believes in Him should not perish

 Many refuse to accept

  1. Parable of excuses – Luke 14:16-24
  2. Matthew 7:13-14 – Wide gate – many enter; Narrow gate – few find it

 Others plan to come but get sidetracked

  1. 2 Peter 2:20-22 – pig returned to mud, dog to vomit
  2. Hebrews 6:4-6 – Had salvation on the end of their tongue and spit it out
  3. Galatians 5:4 – You have fallen from grace
  4. Hebrews 3:12 – Beware lest you depart from the living God
  5. 1 Timothy 4:1 – Some shall depart from the faith
  6. 1 Timothy 1:19 – Concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck

 Some think they are coming; but they are not.

  1. Matthew 7:21-23 – Not everyone who calls on the name – is of Christ
  2. Matthew 25:41-46 – When did we not feed, clothe, visit you?
  3. Luke 18:9-14 – Parable to those who trusted that they were righteous
  4. Deceived, believe wrong
