TITLE: Has the millennium started yet?

TEXT: 2 Peter 3:8-13

PROPOSITION: God does not have a calendar, but his clock is ticking.

QUESTION: How?

KEY WORD: Tickings

SCRIPTURE READING: Same

INTRODUCTION:

  1. At midnight tonight we begin a new year as we count time.
  2. Last year we changed from 1900 to 2000.
  3. Some argue that the new millennium will start tonight.
  4. Reason: There is no "0" year. We went from 1 BC to 1 AD.

God does not have a calendar.

  1. We use the sun and earth rotation to measure years.
  2. God IS the sun of heaven. He does not rotate.
  3. Heaven is one eternal day
  4. To God there is no difference in one day or one millennium.
  5. We try to make God fit our calendar. It has been a year -
Why doesn't God do something? (Revelation 6:9-11)

God has His own method of measuring time.

  1. Galatians 4:4 – In the fullness of time = When God was ready
  2. Why did God wait 4000 years from Adam's sin to Christ?
  3. God was not ready.

Delay as we measure time, does not mean God has forgotten.

  1. God will keep His promises – and threats. (9)
  2. God's promises are sure. (2 Corinthians 1:20)
  3. Delay of God = patience for us to repent. (9)

The day will come.  (10)

  1. It will come unexpectedly.
  2. Suddenly, without warning.
  3. Violently, demonstrating the wrath of God.

God's Millennium Has Started.

  1. This world will be dissolved, melted, and burned up.
  2. God's time clock for eternity is ticking.
  3. The real issue is – Are you ready? (14)

Conclusion:

  1. God does have a plan.
  2. His clock is ticking.
  3. Soon the alarm will sound.
  4. Are you ready?
