INTRODUCTION:

1. Three major points in chapter one.
   
2. Preaching Christ is important - Even when:
   
   1. Situation is not good, motive is wrong
      
   2. When facing death
      
   3. When suffering for Christ (persecution)
      

Christ is preached (12-18)

1. In bad situations - opportunity exists to preach Christ
   
2. Palace guard, fellow prisoners, Caesar's household
   
3. Some preach for wrong motives - greed, fame, power, strife
   
4. Some preach for proper motives - love of people, good will
   
5. In either case - Christ is preached - wrong motive can still convert
   
6. Jonah preached with a desire for their destruction, not salvation
   

To Live is Christ and to Die is Gain (19-26)

1. Romans 8:28 - turn out for good
   
2. Not a death wish - just thinking about options
   
3. To live = more taught, more saved, gospel spread
   
4. To die = with Christ, personal gain, no more suffering
   
5. Confident in the will of God
   
6. 1 John 5:13 - We know that we have eternal life
   

We must Suffer for Christ (27-30)

1. Conduct yourself worthy of the gospel
   
2. Stand fast in one spirit
   
3. Strive together
   
4. Not afraid of the enemy
   
5. Matthew 10:28 - Do not fear him who can kill the body
   
6. Psalm 27:1 - Whom shall I fear?
   
7. It is your special gift of salvation - to suffer for Christ
