TITLE:  How much Power does Satan have?
TEXT:  1 Peter 5:6-10
PROPOSITION:  Satan has power, but we can resist.
QUESTION:  How?

 INTRODUCTION:

  1. Two extreme views are most common –
    1. Satan is a figment of our imagination – does not exist
    2. Satan is all powerful – can possess, control, we can not win
  2. Bible teaches – Satan has power, but we can resist and win.

 Satan has Power.  Satan's Devices 2 Corinthians 2:11

1.        Deception – I Timothy 2:14

a.       Caused David to sin                               1 Chronicles 21:1

b.       Liar, father of lies                                    John 8:44

c.       Blind our mind to truth                           2 Corinthians 4:4

d.       Sear our conscience                               1 Timothy 4:1-3

e.       Teach false doctrines                             Matthew 15:8-9

 2.        Doubt – He plants the seeds of doubt

a.       “If” is a favorite word

b.       Revelation 12:10 – accuser of our brethren

c.       1 Corinthians 10:10-11 – Murmur, complain, gossip

 3.        Desire – Covet, envy, lust

a.       Noah’s day – Genesis 6:5 – thoughts only evil continually

b.       1 John 2:15-17 – lust of flesh, lust of eyes, pride of life

c.       James 1:12-18 – drawn away by our own lusts

 4.        Disruption

a.       Hindered Paul’s coming – 1 Thessalonians 2:18

b.       Paul – thorn in flesh – messenger of Satan – 2 Corinthians 12:7

c.       Sheep in the midst of wolves – Matthew 10:16

d.       “Providentially hindered” = Satan – God does not hinder

 CAN I WIN AGAINST THIS POWER?

1.        Ephesians 6:10-20 Wear the armor – Quench the darts of Satan

2.        Colossians 2:15 Satan might win a battle - Loses the war

3.        James 4:7 Resist the devil - He will flee.

4.        Galatians 5:16 Walk in Spirit, not in lust of flesh

5.        Ephesians 4:27 Don't give place to devil

6.        Romans 6:6-18 Choose whom you will serve

7.        1 Peter 5:8-9 Roaring lion - resist

 Conclusion:

1.        Don't try to out run Satan. No armor on your back.

2.        Meet him head on. Resist.

3.        Problem is:

a.       NOT: Satan is too strong

b.       IS: We are not resisting
