TITLE: Sin that damns

TEXT: John 5:28-30

PROPOSITION: It is our unrepented sin that will condemn us in the judgment.

INTRODUCTION:

  1. All of us sin, Romans 3:23; none is righteous, Romans 3:10
  2. Person asked me, "What sin will send me to hell?"
  3. It is clear that some will be lost, condemned to hell.

 

What is the sin that damns? IS IT:

 

Immorality

  1. John 8:1-11 – woman in adultery, Neither do I condemn thee, sin no more
  2. 1 Corinthians 5 – man living in fornication – urge him to repent

 

Murder

  1. Acts 2:23, 38
  2. Acts 3:14-15, 19
  3. Paul – Acts 8:1, 9:1, 2 Timothy 4:8 – crown of righteousness laid up

 

Theft

  1. Ephesians 4:28 – stop stealing, change your life (repent), seek forgiveness

 

Liars

  1. Revelation 21:8 – all liars in the lake of fire
  2. Titus 1:12-13 – Cretians are always liars, rebuke to be sound in faith

 

Lust

  1. James 1:13-15 – drawn away of own lusts
  2. 2 Timothy 2:22 – flee youthful lusts

 

Negligence

  1. Hebrews 10:25-27 – not forsaking (AWOL) from God's service
  2. Hebrews 2:3 – neglect so great a salvation

 

Busybody (Gossip, Talebearing)

  1. 1 Peter 4:15 – do not suffer as busybody in other men's matters

 

Hypocrisy

  1. Matthew 23:27 – white sepulchers, bull of uncleanness

 

Conclusion: Here is a simple answer to the question –

  1. God will forgive all sin –
    when we repent and obey God's commands – 1 John 1:9
  2. The sin that damns = the sin we have not repented, sought correction, asked for forgiveness.
  3. Not a Christian – believe in Jesus, confess that faith, immersed for remission of sins, life faithful life for God
  4. Christian – repent, pray for forgiveness, announce (as public as sin) your change
